As the name suggests, they are normally buisiness meetings where information and ideas are exchanged. They way in which this done can take any form, including:
Video conferencing, via webcams for example (allowing a very cheap and efficient substitute for satellite links)
Audio conferencing, providind a service simliar tele-bridging or phone conferencing at a fraction of the cost
Desktop sharing, allowing all those in the meetings to share desktops of their computer at home. This is the most interesting, and powerful, method that is now being exmployed for many uses beyond the traditional presentation sharing.
The way in which the software operates can also vary greatly. Available now are anythign from basic text only systems to complicated desktop and video sharing combinations at great expense. |
